Jose Gutierrez Lopez, PhD
I am a forest researcher dedicated to "decode" how trees communicate their health through water. By bridging the gap between advanced tree physiology and practical forest management, my work helps us understand how forests—and the people who depend on them—can adapt to a changing climate.
I am based at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), and my research spans from the boreal forests of Northern Sweden to the agroforestry systems of Rwanda. I specialise in deploying high-resolution environmental and tree-level sensors (e.g. sap flow, stem water content and potential) to monitor the soil-water-atmosphere continuum in the best resolution possible..
My mission? To turn complex physiological data into actionable management strategies that ensure resilient, productive landscapes for the future.
