Research Projects
-
The Flakaliden Research Study
One of the most comprehensive drought experiments ever in Fennoscandia. We will test the effects of early snowmelt (e.g., warming winters), atmospheric and hydrologic drought.
-
Bark beetles and tree stress
The Tönnersjöheden rainfall exclusion experiment is testing whether increased tree stress, will lead to increased bark beetle attacks. This is a super-site located in Southern Sweden.
-
Water uptake in agroforestry systems
This project started in December 2024. We are testing the effects of tree spacing and species composition on water availability in agroforestry systems in Rwanda.
-
Long-term boreal transpiration
In this project, we are conducting one of the longest continuous monitoring studies of tree-level transpiration
-
Early detection of bark beetles
In this project, we are using water transport and hyper spectral imagery to develop techniques for early detection of bark beetle attacks.
-
Stem water content
In this project, we are validating sensors, developing methods, and calibrating algorithms to estimate water content in living trees.
-
BorealScat
In this project, we are developing novel methods to monitor tree health using synthetic aperture radars
